In case you couldn’t tell, we’re so proud of the amazing men and women who make up our team here at Colorectal Clinic of Tampa Bay. Our team is led by three incredible surgeons, Dr. Francisco Itriago, Dr. Jeffrey Mino, and Dr. In Soon Park. Each of them brings something unique to the team, and we love when we get a chance to highlight them so that patients have an opportunity to learn more about them not just professionally, but also on a personal level.
Today we’re sharing a little bit more about Dr. Jeffrey Mino, our most recent addition to the Colorectal Clinic of Tampa Bay team! Dr. Mino specializes in General and Colorectal Surgery, with a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), fecal incontinence, and minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery. He’s an incredible surgeon and an even more incredible person. We sat down and asked him a couple of questions about life as a colorectal surgeon, his professional accomplishments, and what he loves doing when he’s not in the office. Here are his responses!
Who has influenced you the most when it comes to how you approach your work?
“Ever since watching my grandmother's cataract surgery, I have been interested in this profession. She went in nearly blind and within a few short minutes, the doctor had used his skills to give her her sight back. As I went through residency, I found this same satisfaction in operations in the abdominal cavity. Using my hands to fix things and the immediacy of that act is very gratifying to me. I specialized in colorectal surgery for a couple of reasons. For one, I like the variety. One day you are working on hemorrhoids, the next you're taking someone's colon cancer out. It's never dull. I also like the impact I have on my patients. I get to give them their lives back, be it by treating their incontinence, taking away their debilitating pain, curing them of cancer, or treating any number of other afflictions they might have.”
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
“I like to unwind at the end of a busy day by taking a long walk around my neighborhood and adjacent streets with my wife.”
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
“I think I'd choose the power of telekinesis. I would imagine that could come in handy for a surgeon.”
What’s one totally irrational fear you have?
“I have a completely irrational fear of balloons that have been popped. Ever since I was a kid.”
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
“Definitely Sweet Caroline!”
It’s so important to remember that your colorectal surgeon isn’t just your doctor, they’re a person too! Understanding who they are both personally and professionally can go a long way towards reassuring you that you’re trusting the right person with your care. Keep an eye out for our next spotlight!
